The Motorola Mobility unit of Lenovo has announced the launch at IFA 2017 of the Moto X4, the fourth-generation of its Moto X midrange smartphone series and the first since the Moto X Force in November 2015.
The metal and glass handset comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 630 chip, 3,000mAh battery and is IP68 water and dust resistant. Its standout feature is a dual-camera system in which a 12-megapixel main camera is paired with an 8-megapixel wide-angle secondary camera. The main camera has dual-pixel autofocus, an f/2.0 lens, and 1.4-micron pixels, while the wide-angle camera offers a 120-degree field of view from its f/2.2 lens and 1.12-micron pixels. The front camera has 16-megapixels of resolution, an “adaptive low-light mode” and an Augmented Reality (AR) feature, which “adds a layer of animations to photos or videos”.
The Moto X4 is also the first of Motorola’s smartphones to feature support for hands-free control of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. The built-in support means the handset will be able to respond to “Alexa” voice commands, even when locked, and access the features that Alexa offers on Amazon Echo speakers and other devices.
The X4 will be available in Europe this month for EUR 399 with the US launch due later this year.
