LG launches new OLED TVs in Germany

Tuesday 16 April 2019 | 09:43 CET | News
LG said that the new OLED TV devices with Alpha 9 and Alpha 7 processors will be available in Germany from 19 April.

The Alpha9 Gen2 processor used in the LGW9, E9 and C9 series of the OLED TVs, and the Alpha7 Gen2 built into the B9 OLED series, optimizes the images and sound quality with its deep learning algorithm. In particular, the portrayal of well designed black pictures are possible with OLED TVs because of the 8.3 million (4K) or 33.2 million (8K) self-luminous pixels that can be managed individually.

The processors can also improve SDR content close to HDR quality through dolby imaging innovations. The devices also support HDR10, HLG and advanced HDR by Technicolor. The HDR10 content is reproduced with metadata generated by the device.

The sound of the new TVs is improved by the function "AI Sound". The algorithm can turns a two-channel audio signal into virtual 5.1 surround sound. Users can use the intuitive Home Dashboard, an interface that allows the connection of devices to the TV including media players and audio devices, mobile devices such as smartphones and smart devices at home. Information can be retrieved through the speech recognition feature.

The Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) supports HDMI connectivity and quality audio formats. Audio formats such as Dolby Atmos can be transmitted with TrueHD or DTS-HD. The new OLED TVs transmit images with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for games, as long as the connected device supports those functions.

LG expects global demand for large format OLED panels to grow to 3.6 million this year, to 7 million in 2020 and to 10 million units in 2021. The new LG televisions integrate the Google Assistant. Moreover, LG is expanding its artificial intelligence partnerships with Amazon Alexa on the speech recognition services. Alexa will be upgraded in the coming through a software update. The AirPlay 2 of Apple will be also available as a software update. AirPlay 2 allows users to play videos from iTunes and other video applications on the LG OLED TVs.

In the second half of 2019, LG plans to launch of two other OLED TVs in the German market: the LG Signature IOLTD TV and the "Rollable" OLED TV R9.

The OLED77W9 is available from 19 May at EUR 12,999, the OLED65W9 from 19 May at EUR 6,999, the OLED65E9 from 19 April at 3,999, the OLED55E9 from 19 April at EUR 2,999, the OLED77C9 from 19 April at EUR 7,999, the OLED65C9 from 19 April at EUR 3,499 and the OLED55C9 from 19 April at EUR 2,499.
