LG will close its Brazilian plant in Taubate which employs 1,000 workers, union representatives told MobileTime.com.br. The factory produces smartphones, as well as monitors and PCs.
According to the president of the Sindmetau union, Claudio Batista, monitor and PC production will be moved to LG’s plant in Manaus. LG told the union that Manaus offers better pricing conditions to the company, with exemptions that it does not have in the state of Sao Paulo. Sindmetau and LG will negotiate the exit plans for employees. LG claims that it will keep the 300 employees of the call centre.
