Liberty Global has shown at IBC a new cable modem called the Connect Box. The device will be offered at its subsidiaries Telenet (Belgium), Ziggo (Netherlands) and Virgin Media (UK), as well as other units of Liberty Global in Europe. The Connect Box features four Ethernet ports, two phone lines and Wi-Fi, but the company did not provide further information on the exact specifications.

The box is expected to support Docsis 3.0 as well as Docsis 3.1, offering increased broadband speeds. Chipmaker Broadcom said at IBC that network equipment for Docsis 3.1 is ready, and Liberty Global will be one of the first customers. It's not yet known when the Connect Box will be introduced. Liberty Global previously said that it expects to start the first live trials of 1 Gbps broadband using Docsis 3.1 in early 2016.
