Line passes 400 mln users
Mobile messaging app Line announced it has passed 400 million registered users. It last reported the milestone of 300 million in November 2013, and it targets 500 million in the course of this year. Since the start of this year the amount of countries with over 10 million registered users rose to a total 10, including the US, Korea, Malaysia and Mexico. In addition, the company set new records this year for daily chat messages (10 billion/day), sticker messages (1.8 billion/day) and phone calls (over 12 million/day).

Line files for IPO in Tokyo

Mobile messaging app Line has filed for an initial public offering in Tokyo. Line's parent company, South Korean internet group Naver confirmed that it had made the filing after numerous media reports. Line's user base jumps by 2 mln during WhatsApp outage

Line Corporation, the operator of the Line call and messaging app, said it clocked up a new daily record of 2 million new users in 24 hours after WhatsApp suffered a network outage over the weekend. During the WhatsApp outage, Line's new daily user registration spiked at a rate of five times more than usual in North America, South America, and Europe.
