Line, Tencent partner on mobile payment services in Japan

Japanese chat app operator Line has signed a partnership agreement with China's Tencent to offer mobile payment services. Line also plans to set up a bank with Mizuho Financial Group, Reuters reports, citing an unnamed source with direct knowledge of the matter. Line's partnership with Tencent will enable Japanese retailers offering Line Pay services to process payments from Chinese tourists using Tencent's WeChat Pay from early 2019.
