Lionsgate files injunctions against use of Star+ in Mexico and Argentina - report

Friday 30 July 2021 | 11:21 CET | News
The Starz pay-TV service owned by Lionsgate has filed preliminary injunctions against Disney's use of the brand name Star+ in Mexico and Argentina, reports entertainment website Deadline. According to Starz, Disney's Star+ is too similar to its own 'StarzPlay' OTT service on phonetic grounds and could give rise to confusion among potential consumers. In Brazil, a judge has already blocked Disney from using the brand for now, while in Mexico and Argentina the cases are currently moving forward on their merits, said the report.
