Lithuanian mobile operators acquire m-payments platform Mobilieji Mokejimai

Lithuanian mobile operators Bite Lithuania, Tele2 Lithuania and Telia Lithuania have each acquired a 33.3 percent stake in mobile payment company Mobilieji Mokejimai. The increased capital of the company amounts to EUR 2.1 million.

The new shareholders also appointed members of the supervisory and management boards of the company, and named Monika Rimkunaite-Bloze the CEO of Mobilieji Mokejimai.

Mobilieji Mokejimai is creating the first instant payments platform in the Baltic States, which will be called MoQ and will function as a means of payment at points of sale and on the internet, as well as allow customers to make money transfers between themselves. All payments between MoQ users will be made instantaneously and at any time of the day.

Earlier this May, the Bank of Lithuania granted a limited activities electronic money institution licence to Mobilieji Mokejimai, required for activities related to instant payments. In July, the mobile operators received permission from the European Commission to jointly create a common platform for provision of the mobile payments service.
