European Commission has allowed Lithuanian mobile operators to create a common instant payments platform. The largest mobile operators – Bite Lithuania, Tele2 Lithuania and Telia Lithuania – will participate in running the platform. Mobilus Mokejimai, a joint venture founded by the three operators, will create the platform required for provision of instant payments. It will also be the main operator and supervisor of this platform.
The instant payments system will enable mobile users to pay for goods and services as well as to transfer money over handsets.
Earlier this May, Mobilus Mokejimai was granted a licence for electronic money institution by the Bank of Lithuania. The licence is required for the provision of instant payment activities.
