Long distance call cuts cost Telmex 10% of revenues - IFT

Wednesday 4 April 2018 | 11:00 CET | News
The elimination of national long distance call tariffs on 01 January 2015 cost Mexican provider Telmex (America Movil) some 10.4 percent of total revenues, according to a report from regulator IFT. In addition, the joint revenues of all remaining providers exceeded that of the dominant provider for the first time starting in the second quarter of 2016. The elimination of the national long distance tariff essentially created a single local call rate in Mexico and was one of the key measures of the telecommunications reform of 2013-14 that sought to curb America Movil's dominance.
