Lower Austria to set up state broadband construction firm

The Governor of Lower Austria, Erwin Proll (Austrian People's Party, OVP), is planning de facto state control of the region's broadband infrastructure, Austrian newspaper Die Presse reported in its online edition. Presenting his plans on 14 November, Proll said the aim was to provide broadband to those areas with poor purchasing poor or small populations, where it would not be commercially viable. The state of Lower Austria would set up a network construction company with the municipal councils. Austria's national finance minister, Hans Jorg Schelling, who is also from the OVP, said there
