LPWA IoT connections to soar to 861 mln by 2020 - study

Wednesday 27 April 2016 | 15:30 CET | News
Low Powered Wide Area (LPWA) Internet of Things (IoT) connections are set to grow from 20 million in 2014 to 861 million by 2020, equivalent to 55 percent of all IoT connections, according to a report from Pyramid Research. Huge volume growth is expected from 2018, above all when standard 3GPP LTE-M and NB-IoT modules become widely available, said the report. LTE-M (the M2M version of LTE) and NB-IoT (NarrowBand IoT) are due to be approved as standards later this year by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
