Lumen Technologies announced that it has expanded the reach of its network in Western Europe, bringing its services to new cities. The company increased its reach by investing in a new 300 km fibre route between the French city of Lyon and Geneva in Switzerland, passing the metropolitan areas of Grenoble, Chambery and Annecy. In Spain, it has added a new section of more than 280 km between the coastal town of Salou and the French border, while also investing in a metro network in Barcelona, connected to the Marea subsea cable landing station in Sopelana, on the Atlantic coast.
Lumen’s network ring in Spain measures around 1,700 km overall, while the network rings in France and Switzerland amount to 5,600 km and 680 km respectively. Across Europe, the company’s fibre infrastructure extends to approximately 38,000 km, connecting to more than 2,000 on-net buildings and 500 third-party data centres.
