Majority of Android phones still run Gingerbread

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) still accounts for the majority of Android phones in use, according to Google statistics. Version 2.3 of the operating system was on 64.0 percent of phones, while the newer Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is only on 10.9 percent. Android 3.1-3.2 (Honeycomb) accounts for 2.4 percent, and 17.3 percent of Android phones are still running version 2.2 (Froyo). The data is based on devices accessing the Google Play store over 14 days to 02 July and was released on the Android developers blog.
