Many Dutch sites place cookies without permission

Dutch websites are placing unsolicited cookies onto the computer of site visitors on a large scale, violating privacy laws that stipulate cookies may be placed only after receiving visitor permission, NRC Next reported. The report was based on a study performed by two entrepreneurs. Almost one third of Dutch sites place cookies onto PCs and smartphones during a first visit and without permission. Dutch regulator ACM recognised that the cookie law is not in compliance everywhere. The regulator declined to give further comments, saying a number of investigations on the matter were taking place.
