Mastercard launches contactless payments in Belgium

Mastercard is introducing its contactless Meastro/Mastercard payments service in Belgium, supporting NFC payments from smartphones. Local partners in the roll-out are Mobistar, Oberthur Technologies, PrePay Solutions and Penrillian. Mobistar will also deploy the mobile payment services internally later this year. The service is aimed at small payments, with no PIN code required for transactions up to EUR 25. The service was first tested with Mastercard's own employees and selected retailers in the horeca sector near its Belgian head office. Most payment terminals in Belgium are being updated
