Mauritel pays bulk of tax demand

Mauritanian operator Mauritel, has paid MRO 2 billion (approximately USD 5.83 million) to the treasury to cover the bulk of its tax debt, reports Points Chauds. The Maroc Telecom subsidiary was told in December 2015 that it owed MRO 2.6 billion. Mauritel's two competitors, Tunisie Telecom's Mattel and Sudatel's Chinguitel, are expected to make their tax payments soon. In December the tax office said it was seeking to recover MRO 3.6 billion from Mattel and MRO 3.1 billion from Chinguitel.
