Media investors to buy Nextel Argentina, Chile - report
Argentine businessmen Matías Garfunkel and Sergio Szpolski, who have close ties with the local government and own media group Grupo Veintitres, expect to acquire Nextel Argentina and Nextel Chile for nearly USD 250 million, local paper Clarin reports, citing a source familiar with the matter. According to the report, Grupo Veintitres plans to make an offer to NII Holdings this week in order to acquire the two subsidiaries. NII Holdings decided to sell its Argentine and Chilean subsidiaries under a restructuring plan which included the sale of Nextel Peru. Garfunkel and Szpolski will partner with Argentine and US capitals in order to make the acquisition. The businessmen aims to participate in the 4G spectrum auction recently announced by the Argentine government if they finally acquire Nextel, according to the report.
