Mediacom launches fixed-wireless CBRS service with Ericsson

Ericsson announced the launch of a new fixed-wireless broadband service by US cable operator Mediacom Communications. Based on 3GPP standards, the service uses the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) shared spectrum bands in the US and Ericsson 4G and 5G RAN equipment.

The Ericsson RAN allows Mediacom to offer high-speed internet services up to nine miles from each tower location. The equipment is expected to help the operator cost effectively expand its network footprint in new areas and reach more rural locations, in line with government aims to close the digital divide in the US.

Mediacom said last year it was working on developing CBRS services, as its focus shifts to growing data services rather than the contracting cable TV business. The new services were planned to launch in H2 2021.
