MediaTek margins fall in Q4 on smartphone competition

MediaTek reported a sequential decline in Q4 results, hurt by tough competition in the smartphone market and a poor product mix, the company said. Revenues fell 12.4 percent compared to Q3 due to the seasonal slowdown after the holiday period ramp-up but were up 11.3 percent year-on-year to TWD 68.675 billion. The gross margin was 34.5 percent, down 0.7 percentage points sequentially and 4 percentage points year-over-year. Net profit was TWD 5.138 billion, down 34 percent from the previous quarter but up 22.9 percent year-on-year.
