
Megafon eyes Yota acquisition

Russian mobile operator Megafon is considering acquiring Yota, reports Vedomosti citing Igor Tavrin, the CEO of Megafon. The acquisition would give Megafon additional spectrum to deploy LTE across the country. Megafon and Yota already share the same controlling shareholder, the Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, with the two companies both part of the Garsdale holding company. Megafon already uses the Yota network as a MVNO to offer LTE services. Yota runs LTE networks in 29 regions and holds 60 MHz in the 2,500-2,700 MHz band across the country.
