MEP Ruebig calls for abolition of roaming fees

Austrian MEP Paul Ruebig has called on EU member states to reach a consensus on ending roaming fees, diepresse.com reports. The OVP politician worries about hundreds of jobs at telecom companies if the EU does not manage to create a unified single telco market. He also vouched for a single frequency allocation for the mobile standard 5G; Ruebig described Google's plans for a mobile phone that connects with WLAN networks first as a "new overall attack" on existing business models. He concedes that the abolition of roaming costs is not possible this year but he considers an end "conceivable" in
