Metroweb, TI, CDP hope to close deal in coming weeks

Telecom Italia is looking to reach an agreement with Milan-based broadband provider Metroweb in the coming weeks to roll out a fibre-optic network throughout Italy, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. Metroweb is controlled by state-backed lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and infrastructure fund F2i and the Italian government is said to be keen to use the operator as the vehicle for implementing its EUR 12 billion plan to develop a national broadband network.  Telecom Italia, F2i, CDP want to set up a new company jointly owned by Metroweb and Telecom Italia to bring
