Mexican mobile internet lines up nearly 13%, MVNOs hit 4 mln

The total number of mobile lines in Mexico grew 4.9 percent year on year to 125.0 million at the end of the second quarter of 2021, according to the latest data from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT). In terms of inhabitants, this figure is equivalent to 99 access lines per 100 inhabitants, up from a penetration rate of 95 lines per 100 inhabitants a year earlier. Mobile internet lines accelerated by 12.6 percent, or 9.1 million lines, reaching 108.7 million at the end of June, helped in part by a 62 percent surge in the number of MVNO lines to 4.0 million.
