Mexican watchdog approves Televisa-Univision merger

Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has approved plans by Mexican broadcaster and cable operator Grupo Televisa to merge with US broadcaster Univision and set up a new streaming platform. Following a plenary session, the watchdog said it did not expect the merger to have an impact on competition in the country's linear broadcasting or streaming markets. The deal to set up Televisa-Univision involves the US broadcaster paying USD 4.8 billion for Televisa's content assets.
