Mexico to begin taxing OTT platforms in July

Tuesday 7 January 2020 | 10:54 CET | News
Mexico's finance ministry (SHCP) has confirmed plans to start levying taxes on over-the-top (OTT) providers of digital services on 01 July 2020 as part of a strategy to boost overall tax revenue. The aim is to "facilitate compliance with existing taxes by means of a mechanism in which the platforms contribute to the tax authority by withholding taxes," said the ministry, adding that the new measures "do not contemplate new taxes or an increase in current tax rates."
