Mexico to impose local content quotas on OTT providers

Thursday 26 March 2020 | 12:23 CET | News
The Mexican government will be requiring all digital platforms to ensure that national content makes up at least 30 percent of their catalogues by the middle of next year, reports Reuters. The Mexican Senate's finance committee approved a proposal from Senator Ricardo Monreal of the Morena party to reform the current telecommunications law on digital platforms, giving platforms such as Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime Video up to 9 months to increase their national content quotas to 20 percent of the total and 18 months to reach 30 percent.
