Mexico to use oil pipelines to expand fibre network

Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has revealed its intention to use the pipeline network of national oil operator Pemex to roll out fibre-optic infrastructure to the country's underserved localities. Shortly after announcing that the country's telecommunications operators will be given access to around 11 million electricity poles belonging to state-run utility CFE to expand high-speed broadband networks, SCT undersecretary of communications Edgar Olvera said the fibre optics originally installed on Pemex pipelines to prevent fuel theft will also serve to provide
