Mexico's Megacable launches Xview VoD service

Mexican cable operator Megacable has officially launched a new video-on-demand platform in a bid to compete with OTT rivals such as Netflix. The service combines standard linear TV with 8,000 hours of VoD, including news, children's programmes and sports. It also allows users to access content via their mobile devices and includes 48-hour catch up as well as 150 hours of cloud DVR storage lasting 30 days. Xview costs MXN 50 a month and will initially be available in the cities of Guadalajara, Puebla, Hermosillo and Culiacan before rolling out to Megacable’s other markets over the next 60 days.

Megacable had 2.98 million pay-TV subscribers and 2.23 million broadband customers at the end of 2016. It hopes to attract around half a million subscribers to Xview in its first year of operation.
