Microsoft acquires R2 Studios - report

Microsoft has bought US home-automation and entertainment technology startup id8 Group R2 Studios to merge into its Xbox division, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. The company's founder, Blake Krikorian, and a small team will join Microsoft, which has acquired some of R2 Studios' patents related to controlling electronic devices. The amount of the transaction could not be learned. The Verge reported in November that Microsoft was working on a set-top box.
