Microsoft confirms Windows 8, Surface tablet launch

Microsoft has confirmed the launch of Windows 8 and its new Surface tablet PC on 26 October. Starting at USD 499, the tablet is available for sale online at Microsoft stores in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, the UK and the US, as well as at Suning stores in China and Hong Kong. Customers can add a Touch Cover in a choice of five colours for USD 119.99 or a Type Cover for USD 129.99. The company said that in total over 1,000 PCs and tablets running Windows 8 and its ARM equivalent Windows RT will be available at launch.
