Microsoft, Google sue US govt over customer data requests

Microsoft and Google are suing the US government over the right to disclose information about court orders related to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Microsoft said each company filed suit in June to address the government requests for user data. The companies have been in talks with the Department of Justice, hoping to reach an agreement before taking the case to court. On six occasions in recent weeks they agreed to extend the government's deadline to reply to the lawsuits, but the negotiations have now ended in failure, Microsoft said.
