Microsoft promotes LinkedIn's Scott to new role of CTO
Microsoft named LinkedIn executive Kevin Scott to the newly created role of chief technology officer (CTO) at the software giant. This is an expansion of his new role at LinkedIn as senior vice president of Infrastructure. In addition, he joins Microsoft's Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella. Scott will focus on bringing together the LinkedIn professional network with Microsoft's enterprise cloud services, Nadella said in a statement. 

Prior to his role as senior vice president of Engineering and Operations at LinkedIn, Scott held a number of engineering leadership roles at Google and AdMob. He is also an adviser to several Silicon Valley startups, an active angel investor and founder of the nonprofit organization Behind the Tech.

Microsoft completed its USD 26 billion takeover of LinkedIn in December last year.

Microsoft grows quarterly profit 28% on cloud expansion

Microsoft reported net profit for its fiscal third quarter to March up 28 percent year-on-year to USD 4.80 billion or USD 0.61 per share. Revenues increased 8 percent to USD 22.10 billion, and operating profit improved 6 percent to USD 5.59 billion. The takeover of Linked contributed around USD 1 billion in revenues and a USD 0.4 billion operating loss.

Microsoft sales get boost from LinkedIn takeover

Microsoft reported revenue of USD 24.09 billion for its fiscal second quarter to December, as the takeover of LinkedIn and strong growth in cloud services such as Azure helped offset lower Xbox and phone sales and negative currency effects. Operating profit increased 3 percent to USD 6.18 billion, and net profit rose 4 percent to USD 5.20 billion. Adjusted EPS was up 9 percent to USD 0.83.

Microsoft closes USD 26 bln LinkedIn buy

Microsoft is now the official owner of employment-oriented social networking service LinkedIn after the two companies confirmed the closure of the deal. The USD 26.2 billion Microsoft paid represents its largest ever acquisition payout and comes just two days after the European Commission approved the takeover with a number of conditions. Microsoft reported better-than-expected results for its fiscal first quarter to September, driven by continued strength in its cloud services business. Microsoft buys LinkedIn for USD 26.2 bln

Microsoft has agreed to fully acquire LinkedIn for USD 196 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at USD 26.2 billion. Under the deal, which includes LinkedIn´s net cash, the company will retain its brand, culture and independence, and Jeff Weiner will remain CEO, reporting to Microsoft chief Satya Nadella.
