Microsoft to sell 64 GB, 128 GB Surface tablets in January
Microsoft will sell the Surface tablet with the Windows 8 Pro operating system in two versions in January, writes the product's general manager, Panos Panay, on Microsoft's official blog. The 64 GB standalone version will sell for USD 999 and the 128 GB version for USD 999. Both models will come with a Surface pen with palm block technology and include the ability to use a Touch Cover or Type Cover, sold separately. The Surface with Windows 8 Pro will feature Intel's Core i5 processor, rather than the Nvidia chip used in the earlier model. It will also include a full-size USB 3.0 port and a Mini Display Port capable of driving an external display up to 2560 x 1440 resolution. The first version of the Surface built, with 32 GB of memory, starts at USD 499.

Microsoft to release next Surface in February - CEO

Microsoft will release a higher-end version of its Surface tablet in February 2013, CEO Steve Balmer told Le Parisien. The product will have a new Intel processor and a higher definition display. Balmer explained that the first Surface's launch started modestly with availability only online and at a few Microsoft stores in the US, but it is now being extended to more markets and retailers. He describes it as being "one of the best PCs and best tablets combined in one machine".

Microsoft will launch its Surface tablet in Japan eventually. The tablet will be released in Japan in due time, but this would not be until at least next year, the Nikkei reports citing Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows and Windows Live division. It is believed that the company is delaying the launch of the Surface tablet out of consideration for local manufacturers that are releasing competing Windows 8 tablets.

Microsoft revealed pricing for the Surface tablet computers that will go on sale Oct. 26 but are available for online preorder now, starting at 499 dollar.
