Microsoft to test white space technology in Colombia

Monday 30 May 2016 | 12:58 CET | News
The Colombian government and Microsoft have teamed up to deploy internet connections to remote areas of the country using white spaces TV technology. This technology takes advantage of the space left by TV in the electromagnetic spectrum when it switches over to the digital format to provide wireless broadband. The partnership was announced by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and ICT minister David Luna Sanchez. Students from a school in the rural town of Aguadas also attended the launch event and are expected to benefit from the improved connectivity.
