Mobile device shipments to plummet this year on coronavirus impact - study

Global shipments of mobile devices including smartphones, notebooks and to a lesser extent tablets are set to plunge this year due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on production and consumer demand, according to an updated report from Digitimes Research. With operations at many major mobile device manufacturer China plants still way below normal levels since work resumed around mid February, the report said global notebook unit shipments for the first quarter of 2020 are expected to plunge 29-36 percent, compared to the earlier projection of a 17 percent fall.
