Mobile users growing by 40% a year in Sub-Saharan Africa

Mobile phone users increased by an average 40 percent a year in Sub-Saharan Africa between 2000 and 2012, and over 1 billion are expected in 2015, writes ITNews Africa, citing GSMA figures. The mobile opeators' assocation had calculated in February that the region had 56.9 million active mobile users at the end of last year. ITNews Africa now reports that the ITU has published a table of the continent's biggest mobile markets, as of the end of 2012. Nigeria had the most mobile phone customers, 112.78 million, followed by Egypt with 96.8 million and South Africa 68.39 million.
