Mobilicity seeks to be MVNO on new buyer's network

Canadian mobile operator Mobilicity’s founder, John Bitove, and the company’s employees have made an offer to Industry Canada and the government to turn the company into an MVNO that would operate over the network of any potential buyer, according to a press statement from Bitove’s holding company, Obelysk. Telus and Rogers have placed bids to buy Mobilicity and take it out  of creditor protection, according to a recent report. As an MVNO Mobilicity would not need its spectrum, which is sought by the big operators.

As an MVNO, the company would keep its brand, 155,000 active customer base, 150 retail distribution points, its call centre operations and other contractors vital to operations.  It wishes to maintain the Mobilicity brand in its current markets, notably Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa, offering consumers in these markets with a fifth operator.
