The latest proposal from Telus includes the transfer of some Mobilicity frequencies to new entrant Wind Mobile, which is thought to be part of the reason for the government’s change of stance. Letters from Industry Canada earlier this month indicate that the government would approve either transaction. Yet if an agreement is not reached in around one week, the government could postpone the matter until after the national election in October, by which time values and bidders could have shifted significantly.
Telus confirmed to the newspaper that it recently put forward a proposal in which it committed to transfer some of Mobilicity’s spectrum to Wind or to another company or to Industry Canada for reallocation. Mobilicity said it was continuing to engage with a number of parties in the interest of stakeholders, but would not comment on the specifics of any potential transactions.
