Molotov could raise fresh capital from Iliad founder Niel if talks with Altice fail – report

Tuesday 14 May 2019 | 16:32 CET | News

Iliad’s founder Xavier Niel would be ready to participate in a funding round to provide much needed capital to French OTT platform Molotov, according to information gathered by L’Opinion. Earlier this month, unnamed sources quoted by Les Echos revealed that opposition from Molotov’s smaller shareholders is threatening a possible deal between the company and Altice France, which announced exclusive talks to acquire a majority stake in the platform at the end of January.

Molotov CEO Jean-David Blanc is reportedly looking for a “plan B” to ensure the company's survival if these ongoing negotiations fail. The support of Niel would provide a confidence boost for Blanc, in the context of what sources describe as a messy financial situation for the platform.
