Motorola has unveiled the latest additions to its Moto family of affordable smartphones at an event in Sao Paolo.
The thinner fourth-generation Moto G comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display, 13MP camera, 3,000 mAh battery and octa-core processor. The TurboPower features gives the phone six hours of power after just a 15-minute charge. The new Moto G Plus has all the features of the Moto G, plus a somewhat better camera with 16 megapixels, laser focus and phase detect autofocus. Motorola said that DxOMark has rated the Moto G Plus photo quality among the top smartphone cameras, ahead of the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and other phones at more than twice its price. The Moto G Plus also comes with a fingerprint reader.
The Moto G and Moto G Plus are available starting in Brazil at respectively BRL 1,300 and BRL 1,500, and the Moto G Plus has launched also in India. Both versions will arrive soon in various countries across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
Motorola, which is now part of Lenovo, also presented the new Moto G Play. The affordable phone comes with quad-core processor and 2,800 mAh, designed to last a full day on a single charge. It boosts performance by running a "pure, clutter-free" version of Android, the company said. It will be available globally starting later this summer, for less than BRL 1,000.
The launch in Brazil of the new phones follows Lenovo saying early this year that it plans to phase out the Motorola brand, although the 'Moto' name and 'M' batwing logo will still be used. The previous generation of the Moto G was the best-selling smartphone in Brazil in 2014, propelling the company to the position of second-largest phonemaker in the country.
