Motorola Mobility has issued an official statement to clarify the reported move by parent company Lenovo to phase out the Motorola brand to focus on the product sub-brands Moto and Vibe. Although the Motorola brand will become less central to marketing, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo, Motorola Mobility will remain the engineering, design and manufacturing engine for all of the mobile business group’s smartphones and wearables. The company said the brand “Moto” is now synonymous with Motorola, and conveys the Motorola brand to consumers in a "contemporary and engaging" way.
In addition, the iconic M “batwing” logo will continue to be used extensively. “That symbol, which has come to represent the “Moto” brand, continues to play a prominent role, and will remain on our products and in our marketing,” said Motorola on its official blog. Motorola Mobility CEO Rick Osterloh told Cnet last week that high-end phones such as the Moto X will now feature the blue Lenovo logo, as well as the "batwing" logo, while the Vibe brand will be used for budget devices.
