
Movistar picks Alcatel-Lucent for LTE deployment in Spain

Movistar has selected Alcatel-Lucent for the deployment of its LTE network in Spain. Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will provide, deploy and operate two mobile telecommunications networks based on LTE technology. Movistar will use the LTE networks to provide 4G services, including internet connections at speeds of up to 100 Mbps. These two pilot projects will be rolled out in the coming months in Madrid and Barcelona. In the tender for the Movistar contract, Alcatel-Lucent competed against Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks, local newspaper Expansion reports, citing unnamed industry sources.
