Movistar starts LTE deployment in Mexico
Movistar has started the deployment of its LTE network in Mexico. The network is scheduled for commercial launch on 15 October. The technology will initially be available in Polanco, Mexico City, Zapopan, Jalisco, San Pedro, and Monterrey. Movistar plans to invest nearly MXN 3.120 billion in its LTE network deployment during 2012 and 2013, CNN Expansion reports, citing Juan Abellan, CEO of Movistar Mexico. Movistar 4G LTE service will be available for monthly fees ranging between MXN 1,200 and MXN 2,500.

According to the Nextel executive, the operator's 4G LTE services will initially be available in the Monterrey, Guadalajara and the Federal District, to be later expanded across the country.

Mexico mobile data usage to jump 300% with LTE deployment

Mobile data usage is expected to increase by nearly 300 percent in Mexico. This represents a great business opportunity for operators who have deployed LTE networks, Santiago Escalona, customer marketing head for Mexico, at Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), told Mediatelecom. "In South Korea, a customers who used 300 MB per month, uses up to 1 GB with the new technology [LTE]; if we follow the same pattern, this will represent an increase of 300 percent of the end-user consumption for the operator" said Escalon

America Movil to invest USD 10 bln to expand Mexico network

America Movil plans to invest over MXN 10 billion in the expansion of its 3G, 4G and LTE networks in Mexico. The operator plans to extend its network coverage to 65 percent of Mexico's population by June, El Universal reports, citing Marco Quatorze, director of value added services at America Movil. Launched in 2012, America Movil's LTE network currently covers Mexico's largest cities, including Tijuana, Hermosillo, Juarez, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Puebla, Monterrey, Merida and Distrito Federal.

Telcel launches LTE network in 9 Mexican cities

Mexican mobile operator Telcel, a unit of America Movil, has launched its LTE network. Telcel's LTE network will initially cover 9 Mexican cities, including Tijuana, Hermosillo, Juarez, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Monterrey, Puebla, Merida and Distrito Federal. The network provides download speeds of up to 20 Mbps. Telcel will extend its LTE network coverage to 26 cities by the end of the first quarter of 2013, El Universal reports, citing America Movil CEO Daniel Hajj.
