Movistar Venezuela complains of equipment theft

Movistar Venezuela (Telefonica) has reiterated its concerns about the spate of mobile base station thefts in the country, telling local daily El Nacional that 120 of its stations have been stolen so far this year, some 97 percent more than in the same period of 2016. The theft and vandalism usually takes place in rural and mountainous areas away from Caracas, said the company, adding that such crimes were responsible for 50 percent of all outages and that the cost of replacing each station comes to around BOB 8 million. The Venezuelan government last year set up a dedicated phone line
