Mtel rebrands as A1 Bulgaria

The Bulgarian subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group, Mtel (Mobiltel) announced on its website it completed its re-branding as A1 Bulgaria. The new name reflects a change in its business operations, after expanding into the fixed market in recent years to offer home internet, cable TV and cloud services. The operator's previous name was Mobiltel and it operated under the Mtel brand. All the operator's services are sold under the new brand name and its website was also changed from mtel.bg to A1.bg.

Some of the company's offices have already been re-branded and the company plans to replace the Mtel logo everywhere within a few weeks with the A1, according to news agency Novinite. The operator's executive director Alexander Dimitrov also said the company will provide new services, some of which will be available for the first time on the local market. These include a new payment service supporting money transfers, a credit card, an own line of smartphones under the A1 brand, and a music streaming platform similar to Spotify.

The Bulgarian operator is the third Telekom Austria subsidiary to switch to the new name, after the Austrian and Slovenian units. At present, the A1 Group operates in four other countries: Belarus, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia.
