MTN Nigeria denies that NCC fine caused it to sack workers

Monday 19 June 2017 | 10:24 CET | News
MTN Nigeria says the fact that it made 259 employees redundant had nothing to do with the NGN 1.04 trillion fine imposed on it by the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), reports the Guardian. Head of Corporate Services Oyeronke Oyetunde told the House of Representatives Committee on Telecommunications on 15 June that the workers were disengaged after MTN's operations went digital. Oyetunde was responding to insinuations that MTN embarked on the redundancies after the NCC penalised it in 2016.
