MTN Nigeria seeks new penalty cut amid committee criticism

MTN has proposed a reduction in the fine imposed on it for failing to disconnect improperly registered SIMs to USD 1.5 billion, the Leadership reported. The Senate Committee on Communication has condemned the manner in which the out-of-court settlement between the government and MTN was being conducted. The Senate also was against the alleged exclusion of the Ministry of Communication and the NCC from discussions on the issue.
