MTN Nigeria subscriber base falls after disconnections

MTN said the disconnection of 4.5 million subscribers in February in Nigeria, related to the registration compliance process, has impacted its subscriber numbers in the country and contributed to a 6.9 percent reduction in subscribers in Q1 to 57 million at 31 March. Following the weak start to the year, MTN cut its outlook for subscriber growth this year in Nigeria to 3.5 million from an earlier target of 4.0 million. Constant currency data revenue declined by 9.6 percent and contributed 19.0 percent to total revenue, mainly due to a change in regulatory requirements obliging operators to
