MTN opposes Vodacom acquisition of Neotel

MTN Group said it opposes Vodacom Group's acquisition of Neotel as the deal would give Vodacom dominance in South Africa's high-speed internet market, Bloomberg reports. In a filing to the Competition Commission's review of the Neotel takeover, MTN said Vodacom would be able to create a national LTE network at a time when its competitors are unable to do so. According to MTN, the acquisition would give Vodacom an unmatchable cost and time-to-market advantage, as it uses Neotel's spectrum to strengthen its position.
